Retinoic acid as cause of cell proliferation or cell growth inhibition depending on activation of one of two different nuclear receptors.
نویسنده
چکیده
Retinoic acid can combine with the nuclear retinoic acid receptor (RAR), leading to cell growth inhibition, as in certain tumors. Retinoic acid can also bind to the orphan nuclear receptor peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor beta/delta (PPAR beta/delta), resulting in stimulation of cell growth and inhibition of apoptosis. To bind to RAR, retinoic acid is carried into the nucleus by the cytosolic cellular retinoic acid-binding protein-II; to bind to PPAR beta/delta, it is transported into the nucleus by the cytosolic fatty acid-binding protein 5.

Mir-55 inhibition can reduce cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in Jurkat (Acute T cell Leukemia) cell line
Background MicroRNAs are small and non-coding RNA molecules with approximately 22 nt in length that cause inhibition of translation or degradation of mRNA. MiR-155 is a kind of molecule with different functions, such as its role in proliferation, apoptosis, inflammation, differentiation, and immunity. One of its best known functions is apoptosis that affects on caspase-3 activity. The main aim...
متن کاملOpposing Effects of Retinoic Acid on Cell Growth Result from Alternate Activation of Two Different Nuclear Receptors
Transcriptional activation of the nuclear receptor RAR by retinoic acid (RA) often leads to inhibition of cell growth. However, in some tissues, RA promotes cell survival and hyperplasia, activities that are unlikely to be mediated by RAR. Here, we show that, in addition to functioning through RAR, RA activates the "orphan" nuclear receptor PPARbeta/delta, which, in turn, induces the expression...
متن کامل9-cis-Retinoic Acid and 1,25-dihydroxy Vitamin D3 Improve the Differentiation of Neural Stem Cells into Oligodendrocytes through the Inhibition of the Notch and Wnt Signaling Pathways
Background: Differentiating oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) into oligodendrocytes could be improved by inhibiting signaling pathways such as Wnt and Notch. 9-cis-retinoic acid (9-cis-RA) and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25[OH]2D3) can ameliorate oligodendrogenesis. We investigated whether they could increase oligodendrogenesis by inhibiting the Wnt and Notch signaling pathways. Methods: Co...

Backgrounds and Objectives: All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) which is a derivative of vitamin A, exert fundamental effects on regulation of cell growth, differenation and apoptosis. Recently, resistance to cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil developed in gastric adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. In this study, we investigated the combination treatment of ATRA with cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil ...

Purpose: To determine the inhibitory effects of eugenol on cytotoxic activities of retinoic acid in the liver tissue of the NMRI mouse. Materials and Methods: In this study, pregnant mice were administered by a single oral dose of 100 mg/kg eugenol from 5th to 10th days of pregnancy and also a single oral dose of 60 mg/kg RA at the day 10 of gestation. Pregnant females were sacrificed at the d...
